It's pretty incredible when you pull into one of these Sonic restaurants and realize that the scene perfectly matches the renderings you crafted back in 2011...


These establishments must be relatively new, although 2011 isn't exactly 1955...
I was there to finally sample the product we meticulously designed, opting for a milkshake. It turned out to be one of the best I've ever had, even if the quintessential delivery person on skates wasn't around...
What truly sets Sonic apart is their iconic carhop service, where patrons can park and have their orders gracefully wheeled out to them by servers on roller skates. This timeless dining tradition, paired with their expansive menu offerings, has solidified Sonic as a cherished mainstay in the fast-food world.
I can't help but eagerly anticipate the day when perhaps robotic servers on roller skates will make their debut.


Nevertheless, witnessing our collaborative creation for Sonic (in partnership with Delphi Display) fills me with immense satisfaction.
As the saying goes, seeing is believing, or perhaps it's believing that sets the stage for what's to come?

What Is the Sonic Digital Menu Board?

Sonic Drive-In has integrated interactive digital menu boards—part of its “Point-of-Personalized-Service” (POPS) system—into drive-in stalls. These touchscreen devices allow customers to place orders directly, view dynamic content, and even pay right at the stall

Key Features & How It Works

1. Interactive Ordering & Dynamic Menu Displays

  • Customers push a button to start ordering; then the digital screen displays featured items and promotions. Once the order is confirmed, the screen may suggest add-ons PYMNTS.comQSR WebEightify.

  • These dynamic displays can adapt to factors like weather, time of day, or even individual customer profiles—especially in pilot locations deploying AI-powered voice ordering and personalized menus Restaurant Technology NewsDigital Signage TodayEightify.

2. Mobile App & Integration

  • Customers can place orders via Sonic’s mobile app and “check in” at a selected stall upon arrival. The touchscreen then greets them by name, shows their picture, order status, and even the name of the carhop heading their way PYMNTS.comCIOEightify.

3. Faster, Personal Service
