SOMABAR ROBOTIC BARTENDER

2016 CES Best of Innovations

SOMABAR

The name SOMA traces back to ancient Vedic culture, where it referred to a sacred ceremonial drink believed to inspire clarity, connection, and elevated experience.

More than just a beverage, SOMA symbolized ritual, transformation, and the shared moment created around a carefully prepared drink.

SOMABAR draws from this legacy — reimagining the idea of a crafted elixir through modern technology — turning automated mixology into a contemporary ritual that brings people together through precision, design, and experience.

You load spirits, juices, syrups, or mixers into ingredient canisters.

Through a mobile app or controls, you select a recipe, and the machine dispenses measured amounts to build the cocktail.

SOMABAR won the 2016 CES Best of Innovation Award.

CES is the largest consumer electronics show in the world with 150k+attendees annually.

Concept development

Tandem’s design team created some awe-aspiring concepts with the raw creative power and lightening speed CAD design.

Design refinement

Detail design followed with high-end CMF, inspired by high-end Yachts.

To meet the project deadline for the kickstarter campgain, the final renderings were created over the weekend at Marina Del Rey, where the coolest mega Yachts of LA docked.

Mechanical engineering CAD displayed on a Gateway XHD3000 monitor. The feeling of designing a new product using a previously designed product was immense.

Engineering

From the very first sketch to a fully functional prototype, the product was developed in just 30 days. Tandem’s flawless execution with design refinement, system architecture, layout planning, and mechanical engineering, delivering a production ready enclosure with precision and speed.
